Insight into Your Body
At Faulkenberry Chiropractic in Little Rock, we feel we utilize the best state-of-the-art equipment available in order to give you, the patient, the best treatment possible. Besides our extensive skills in orthopedic, neurological and sensory testing, we use x-rays and the Insight Millennium, which is certified space technology, by the Space Foundation.
The Insight Millennium is an electronic neurological testing station, which gives us insight to your nervous system. This screening and evaluation system uses thermal scanning and surface electromyography technology (SEMG). SEMG was originally designed to measure changes in the spinal muscles of astronauts.
The benefits of these scans are to detect and pinpoint abnormal function which cannot be seen on X-ray and generally are not felt in the form of pain until the damage is severe. Our Little Rock chiropractor perform a scan that will show if there is any Subluxation (stress) on your nervous system and how it is affecting your organs, glands, muscles and energy levels.
The scanner will measure the temperature on each side of the spine. Your skin temperature is controlled by the autonomic nervous system which is the part of the nervous system that you don’t think about. Such as heart rate, breathing, organ function and much more. Studies at John Hopkins University demonstrate that the body temperature on the left and right side of the spine should be the same. A difference of body temperature between the right and left sides of the spine indicates stress on the autonomic nerves (subluxation). This test enables us to determine what organs may be affected and the severity of the stress.
SEMG will measure how your motor nerves are working. This is the part of the nervous system that controls muscles and movement. The more your muscles contract … the more electrical activity. Disturbances in nervous system function can cause asymmetry in the muscle balance on either side of the spine. We are able to measure the amount of muscle spasms or weakness which may indicate stress to your nervous system caused by subluxation.
Subluxations are joint problems that affect the function of nerves and can affect the body's organs and general health. The Central Nerve System, which controls ALL FUNCTIONS OF THE BODY, is comprised of three areas. Any or all of these areas may be affected by misalignments (subluxations) of the spine.
Motor nerves control your movement and posture and when disturbed can lead to abnormal tensions, weakness and fatigue. This is extremely important because the vertebrae in the spine depend on the muscles to move properly. Subluxations disturb nerve function and cause an abnormal amount of electrical current to flow to your muscles. This leads to muscles becoming weaker or stronger, tighter or fatigued on one side of the spine compared to the other. These are indicated by colors or abnormal patterns in the scan.
Autonomic nerves control all of your organs, immune system and glands (hormones). If your normal body temperature is 98.6ºF, then the left and right sides of your spine should also be the same. Your skin is the largest organ in the body, and the blood vessels under the skin work as the body's thermostat. They expand to release heat and contract to retain heat controlling the body's temperature. When there is disturbance somewhere in the Nervous System, the blood vessels are disturbed, and it causes the body's thermostat to malfunction.
Certain nerves control your ability to sense and perceive pain. Only 10% of your entire nervous system is set up to sense pain. While pain is a strong warning that something is wrong, a lack of pain may not mean that we are totally healthy.
No, these tests do not utilize any needles, electric shock, or heat. The patient just feels someone touching their spine. Even children can be scanned.
The scans are painless and provide us with a wealth of information to provide you with the best care. Below are sample scans. The colors in the bars represent:
This is how a normal scan should look
This is a scan of a patient before any chiropractic adjustments or treatment have been performed
This scan shows improvement after a patient has undergone a series of adjustments and treatments
For years, a concern of the public has been, "Why do I have to keep going to the chiropractor even though I'm pain-free?" or "How do I know if I'm getting the proper amount of adjustments?"
Now you are able to actually see the changes, and it will be easier to understand the amount and type of care you are receiving. This technology allows the doctors to provide a "tailor-made" program to meet your specific needs.
